A 5-day Faroe Islands itinerary

Not a checklist. A rhythm. Five days that move with the weather instead of fighting it.

Day 1 — Tórshavn and Vágar

Land at Vágar Airport. Drive 45 minutes to Tórshavn, drop bags, and use the afternoon for Tinganes — the old harbour district that's the architectural source code for everything Faroese.

Day 2 — Gásadalur and the western cliffs

Back across to Vágar. Gásadalur in the morning before tour buses arrive. The waterfall is the headline; the village behind it is the story.

Day 3 — Saksun and Streymoy north

Saksun at sunrise if you can — the tidal lagoon at low tide opens a black-sand beach you cannot reach otherwise.

Day 4 — Kalsoy and Kallur Lighthouse

Ferry from Klaksvík to Syðradalur (around 105 DKK return per adult, roughly 270 DKK with a car), then the single road north to Trøllanes. The Kallur Lighthouse ridge is about two hours' walk return, with the most cinematic frame on the islands; budget the 200 DKK landowner fee collected at the trailhead.

Day 5 — Mykines and the puffins

Go between May and August: the ferry from Sørvágur sails daily then, and bookings for the season open in early February. Access to the puffin cliffs beyond the village is a mandatory guided tour run by the landowners from 1 May to 31 August: 400 DKK when booked via hiking.fo by the day before, 500 DKK on arrival, and outfield walking is allowed only between 10:00 and 17:00. The path out to Mykineshólmur and its lighthouse is currently closed to visitors.
