Best drone locations in the Faroe Islands
Drones reveal the Faroese geometry — but the rules matter.
The working limits for visitors: maximum height 120 m, at least 150 m from villages, towns and main roads, and never within 5 km of Vágar Airport. Bird cliffs during nesting season (April–August) are effectively off limits, and several villages ask that drones stay away from houses entirely.
Registration and permit mechanics change — check visitfaroeislands.com for the current rules before you travel, and read local signage before every launch.

Restricted: outstanding cliff geometry, but fly from the sea side, never over the private village.

Restricted — fly only from the road, never over the village.

Clean air above the saddle, the northern fjords below.

Open airspace — keep upwind of the spray.

Legal along the route; mind the updraft at the shoulder.

Open coastline with no houses in frame — mind the valley gusts.
